How do I find the right NAICS code?

The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) classifies manufacturing industries. WTP uses these codes to match products with the correct Industry Cost Profile. NAICS codes are also relatively easy to find on the NAICS website. Finding the correct NAICS can be done in the following ways:

1. Search for the supplier name together with NAICS code using a search engine or AI tool. For example "NAICS code ABC Packaging". If this does not yield the desired result, a search can be done on the name of the (international) market leader in the supplier's industry.

2. Go to the NAICS website, then click on 'NAICS Code Search'. Search for your product or manufacturing process to find the corresponding NAICS code. The advantage of using the NAICS website is that you can explore different industries and find detailed information about each classification.

3. In WTP, you are able to find the correct NAICS code by searching keywords. WTP has 200,000 keywords in the database and uses the same keyword structure as the NAICS classification, making it easier to find the correct Industry Cost Profile.

Tip: Search by the manufacturing process (for example, plastic injection moulding or sheet metal stamping) rather than by the product name alone. This often results in a more accurate Industry Cost Profile.
